Checking In On Facebook

We have had many people confused on how to “check-in” on Facebook and be entered into our $50 Amazon gift card drawing.  We want to make it clear that when you check in on Facebook, you will be posting your name on our website saying that you are there. If you prefer not to share such information we completely understand, however, if you don’t mind sharing your visits with us it goes a long way to help us improve and continue to offer to our patients the best service that we can.

The following steps will help you check in on Facebook:

Directly under “What’s on your mind?” is the Check-In button. Press that Button.

MAKE SURE THAT UNDER NEWS FEED IT IS SET TO “Public” If it is not set to Public we will not be able to see it and you will not be entered to win the drawing.  It does not make your Facebook page public, just this check-in.

Spring Cleaning Your Health

Spring means new beginnings, fresh starts and reorganizing.  When we think of spring several things usually come to mind:

  • flowers
  • warmer weather
  • being outdoors, and
  • spring cleaning -yuck!

The idea of spring cleaning is something that you either dread or very much look forward to. It also doesn’t have to apply just your home or office, it’s actually a great time for re-organizing your life.

By this time of year most of us have given up on our new year’s resolutions however, you don’t have to wait until 2019 to start back up.

Don’t overwhelm yourself with a whole tear down, instead start small and work your way to the bigger things.  Decluttering is a perfect way to start.

  • Go to your closet, and throw out your “fat” clothes. Don’t give yourself a reason to get back into your old habits; if an item is more than 1 size too big you no longer have any use for it.  Thrift it or gift it!
  • Go to your pantry.  Pull out all expired foods and throw them away.  Get rid of the “junk” you bought in a moment of weakness.  Give it to someone who would enjoy it, or put it in your office break room (this works especially well for people engaged in workplace weight loss competitions).  
  • It’s time to throw out that Christmas candy. Really! You don’t need it and it’s probably getting a little gross.
  • Stress, even small amounts of it, can be very unhealthy for you and sometimes you will make poor food choices because of it.  People can feel compelled to eat when you are happy when you are sad or, most commonly, when you are stressed. Even the small things can help manage your stress level, many of us use several different social media websites which can become far more stressful than relaxing. Unfriend dramatic people on your lists. You will be surprised how enjoyable your social media time will become by comparison.
  • Turn your spring cleaning into spring training!  Why not turn your deep cleaning into a workout? Crank up the music and do squats while holding a bucket of cleaning supplies. Squat to put things into your lower cupboards. Do lunges while vacuuming or mopping.  Every little bit helps.

Most importantly, spring is the perfect time to come out of your winter hibernation.  Dust off your walking shoes and just start moving a little at a time. Need some extra energy to get you started? Stop by our office forget a B-12 shot, if you are dieting or just not eating perfectly, the extra B-12 can make all the difference.  Any adult can get one– any time that we are open, just come right in and we will be there to help.

As the summer is winding down, it’s common for us who live in a four season climate to subtly change our lifestyles in negative ways, sometimes regressing to the point of starting over. Whether its reducing our physical activity due to less enjoyable weather, or eating more in response to the chilly temperatures; these behaviors feel natural but contribute to the all-to-common cyclical nature of weight loss/gain. While they may feel natural, it is important to remember that we are not bears, and therefore do not require preparations for hibernation.

There are some things we can do to counter these tendencies however; such as recommitting to calorie counting, or finding new ways to exercise indoors (wherever your schedule permits). Also keep in mind that certain types of foods will have different effects on your appetite, which becomes increasingly important as the seasons are accompanied by certain stables like pies, cookies, cakes, and other assorted sweets. It’s the sugar in these foods that creates the terrible feedback loop of insulin spikes and crashes and their associated cravings. Additionally much of this food is lacking in sufficient amounts of protein to satisfy you appetite.

Now may also be the perfect time to find a gym or start a new exercise routine, finding ways to stay active and engaged with fitness will no doubt help you stave off the consequences of having less time to walk or play outdoors.

Whatever you do, I implore you to take in mind what your goals are for yourself, and if you’ve already made progress hold on to it and don’t let the change of seasons throw you off track. There is no need to wait until the New Year to recommit to getting healthy, keep focused year round; count your calories, move as much as possible, and always remember that weight loss is a marathon rather than a sprint,  just keep plodding forward and you will get there.

We have encountered several instances where we received personal checks as a form of payment and the check was returned unpaid due to account closing, change in account, or insufficient funds.  We realize sometimes it can be an honest mistake, but we do want to emphasize that we stopped taking checks as payment since November 2016 and there will be no exceptions.

Payment is rendered at the time of service.  We accept many forms of payment for our weight loss & hormone replacement services:  Cash, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, CareCredit, and certain FSA or HSA plan if the card is a Mastercard or VISA and scan in our machine.

When most people first come to see us, their introduction included several urgings as to the importance of tracking calories.  We know that this advice will sometimes fall on deaf ears, but we wanted to take time to reiterate the importance of tracking calories when attempting to lose weight through diet.

Whether you are using appetite suppressants, HCG, or just plain old dieting, you will find that errors in estimating calories can add up throughout the day to a surprising degree. If you doubt this, test yourself on a variety of everyday foods and compare this to what you can find on any number of calorie counter websites. Even if you do well in this controlled setting, I would be cautious to trust your instincts in the real world, especially if these instincts have already played a role in your weight gain.

Also keep in mind that with lower calorie diets, such as those used with HCG or by certain individuals with slower base metabolisms,  the margin for error is far smaller. Overestimating by 50 calories per meal make a much bigger difference for someone eating 800 calories a day than someone eating 1600.

Finally, we want to encourage you to begin tracking calories not just for now but also for the future. We have found that the best way to prevent post-diet weight rebounds is by spending adequate time tracking your calories when attempting to eat at “weight maintenance” diet. By getting feedback through your tracker you can better train your body to feel satisfied with the appropriate amount of food for you to avoid subsequent weight gain.

Many people have asked why it is that we carry B vitamin injections, and even more why we carry so many different “types” of B vitamin injections. In this post we want to address the benefits of Vitamin B12 supplementation, as well as the variations of B Vitamin injections that we carry.

Firstly, we highly recommend that anyone on a low calorie diet should supplement additional vitamin B-12 into their regimens. Vitamin B-12 is involved in a wide range of bodily functions, and most importantly for our purposes energy production. This means that is one is deficient in B12, they are likely to feel more tired and less likely to have the necessary control to make the kind of hard choices necessary to reach their health and fitness goals.

Beyond the basic B12 injection and its many beneficial effects, we offer several different types of B vitamin injections, specifically formulated with additional supplements to meet you individual goals. The most popular variation that we offer is the “Fat Burner” shot, which includes a standard dose of B12 as well as a collection of amino acids that both help to increase the efficiency of your fat loss by encouraging blood flow to fat deposits, as well as mitigate any of the potential side effects that accompany any weight loss program (ie, diminishing hair and nail quality, jitteriness or restlessness, etc.).

Our second most popular option after the “Fat Burner” lipotrophic injection is the “Energy/Anti-Inflammatory” injection. This particular injection is geared toward either those who are very active, resulting in regular soreness and achiness, or those with chronic pain or soreness due to injuries or other health issues. In addition to an extra large dose of B12 (there is currently no known hazardous limit to B12 supplementation) this injection includes an amino acid blend that helps to bring down general inflammation, and thus reduce soreness and pain. Using this shot weekly can help to increase your energy in the gym, as well as increase recovery time after intense workouts.

Our last injection is typically reserved for those who have begun an exercise routine, since it must be used in conjunction with one of our B12 injections due to being a “complex” containing all the necessary B vitamins except for B12. Patients report significant joint pain relief, as well as increased exercise endurance and recovery when using this injection weekly.

In summary, we recommend trying a course of the B-12 metabolism injection + fat burner lipotrophic injection once a week for 4 weeks to enhance weight loss when you are taking phentermine and or using the HCG diet shots.  The B-12 metabolism + fat burner injection is administered as 2 separate injections on the arm, or we can combine them for you for 1 injection on the hip or gluteal region.
