Fall is here! As we welcome to shorter days, crisp air and colorful leaves, we should think of the new season as a chance for a fresh start to your healthy habits.  As we pack up our swimsuits and flip flops and bring out those sweaters and toboggans, let’s not use the change in wardrobe as an excuse to forget our fitness goals. Some of us tend to gain weight in the summer even though we seem to be more active thanks in large part to, barbecues, graduation parties, weddings, and other gatherings. Fall, however, is the perfect time to undo the damage, since while Summers tend to stay busy Fall affords many of us more opportunity to slow down and refocus on our health and our families.

Below are a few Fall tips for getting the most out of the season:

  • Pumpkins aren’t just for decorating–they are rich in phytosterols, and loaded with vitamins A and C. Some studies show that adding pumpkin into an already balanced diet can lower cholesterol.
  • Don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  Your skin will thank you and so will your immune system especially in the cool windy weather.  Probiotics have been known to boost our immune system which seems to always be worse in the fall.  You know another source of immunity booster? Pumpkin!
  • Turn the computers off and put your sneakers on and go outside.  Nothing is better than walking with the crisp air and fall foliage.  Spending time outdoors have been known to improve your concentration and your mood, especially as the daylight hours diminish.

  • If you must perform yard work, you can also use that as an alternative to a workout in a pinch.  For a 150 pound person, 30 minutes of raking leaves, or planting/weeding, or playing with the little ones can each easily burn up to 150 calories. (Just wait until you see how many calories you can burn shoveling snow in a few months)

  • Autumn veggies are filled with heart-healthy vitamins.  Try roasting fall veggies with a little oil and salt & pepper, the extra fiber will also help avoid the urge to overindulge in all of the pumpkin spice treats we get surrounded by this time of year.

Fall doesn’t have to be the season that we dread just because it gets colder and grayer.  With these tips, we can make fall a fun, healthy time of year.

Hi! I started my journey with Elevation Weight Loss in Weirton on March 9, 2018. I was tired, sad and could barely walk up my steps. When I walked into Elevation, everyone made me feel very welcome and comfortable. One of the first questions was did I have a goal weight I wanted to achieve? I figured I had a lot of weight to lose, so for now, I will set a small goal of 50 lbs since I had soooo much to lose! Now, here I am 2 months later and I’m down 43.5 lbs so far.

I’m feeling wonderful at this point and have no intention of stopping at 50 lbs! I have more energy than I had for a long time. Participating in aerobic swim classes and now even starting to attend a trampoline ounce class… I’m looking forward to the next few months to achieve my goal weight and to keep on going further– no stopping me now! Thanks Elevation for giving me that extra little help I needed to start to change my life!

I started my journey at the beginning of 2017 when I decided it was time for me to get myself back together after years of diet struggles, failed weight loss attempts. I had tried everything g under the sun at this point. I have struggled with weight issues my whole life and it seemed I would lose but never be able to maintain it, and wasn’t interested in being on a diet my whole life nor saw enough results to continue being motivated.

In January 2017 a friend of mine was telling me she was about to start a program to promote weight loss as she just had a baby and wanted to lose the weight. She notified me of how things were doing for her as she started the program and she was getting a lot of success. This intrigued me, so I called Elevation Medical Weight Loss and made an appointment.

I was nervous, skeptical, and hoping that this was my answer to my weight loss troubles. I got to my appointment and even brought my mom with me. The staff and doctors were very nice, informative and supportive of my situation and goals. So I committed myself to the program and this started day one.

I adjusted my food intake and paired with the medications they gave me, I could see the weight coming off in the first week. Although I would have loved to have spent time in the gym as part of the process, it just wasn’t feasible as I  work two full-time jobs and go to school full time. I continued on this program for six months and lost a substantial amount of weight but I was nervous about what was going to happen once I stopped the program. So I decided to try that and see what happens. I stopped the program for six months and I continued to lose weight about 30 pounds over that period and although it wasn’t as fast it was still good progress. I decided to go back on the program in February of 2018 to reach my goal weight and it’s is working, I am still losing the weight! I couldn’t be happier and so grateful for Elevation Medical Weight Loss for their continued support in my journey. I also used their vitamin B shots to aide in my process. I would recommend them to anybody who has a desire to finally lose the weight. Give them a call!! I know I’m happy I did. My starting weight was 285 and my current weight is 167. We are located at the Mid Atlantic Plaza  5004 Mid Atlantic Drive.

Our Morgantown office currently takes appointments two to three days a week with more days in the near future.  Our clinic opens Mon- Tues 11a-5p and Thurs-Fri 11a-5p for weigh-ins and B-12 shots.

We offer all the services that we have in our Pittsburgh and Weirton offices.  You can transfer your chart from one location to another. We are here for your convenience.
