Fall is here! As we welcome to shorter days, crisp air and colorful leaves, we should think of the new season as a chance for a fresh start to your healthy habits.  As we pack up our swimsuits and flip flops and bring out those sweaters and toboggans, let’s not use the change in wardrobe as an excuse to forget our fitness goals. Some of us tend to gain weight in the summer even though we seem to be more active thanks in large part to, barbecues, graduation parties, weddings, and other gatherings. Fall, however, is the perfect time to undo the damage, since while Summers tend to stay busy Fall affords many of us more opportunity to slow down and refocus on our health and our families.

Below are a few Fall tips for getting the most out of the season:

  • Pumpkins aren’t just for decorating–they are rich in phytosterols, and loaded with vitamins A and C. Some studies show that adding pumpkin into an already balanced diet can lower cholesterol.
  • Don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  Your skin will thank you and so will your immune system especially in the cool windy weather.  Probiotics have been known to boost our immune system which seems to always be worse in the fall.  You know another source of immunity booster? Pumpkin!
  • Turn the computers off and put your sneakers on and go outside.  Nothing is better than walking with the crisp air and fall foliage.  Spending time outdoors have been known to improve your concentration and your mood, especially as the daylight hours diminish.

  • If you must perform yard work, you can also use that as an alternative to a workout in a pinch.  For a 150 pound person, 30 minutes of raking leaves, or planting/weeding, or playing with the little ones can each easily burn up to 150 calories. (Just wait until you see how many calories you can burn shoveling snow in a few months)

  • Autumn veggies are filled with heart-healthy vitamins.  Try roasting fall veggies with a little oil and salt & pepper, the extra fiber will also help avoid the urge to overindulge in all of the pumpkin spice treats we get surrounded by this time of year.

Fall doesn’t have to be the season that we dread just because it gets colder and grayer.  With these tips, we can make fall a fun, healthy time of year.

Two years ago after I gave birth to my daughter, I was the heaviest I had ever been, weighing in at 240 lbs.

Between pregnancy, not much exercise, and eating unhealthy, I couldn’t stand the way I was feeling. I was so happy with a healthy newborn, yet so miserable mentally and physically. I knew I had to make a change. Finally, in April of 2017 I had begun my journey. Dedication, hard work, discipline, and Elevation Weight Loss’s program.

So far I have lost a total of 70 pounds in 12 months. I made goals each month for myself. I pulled out smaller clothes and hung them on my closet as a constant reminder thinking “I want to wear this again one day, and I will make it happen.”

I feel great. My joints don’t hurt, I can now run a few miles without stopping, where I could not run for more than 2 minutes at my heaviest. And no longer am I depressed. Exercising is the best form of stress relief for me. I made sure to keep track of my calories every day. Small balanced meals along with healthier snack options. Visiting Elevation Weight Loss Center, weighing in, and having such an encouraging friendly team on my side was a huge help for me. Packing lunches, and not stopping for food on the go. Logging my meals and what I ate every day also helped immensely.

Losing weight is a process. Unfortunately, we all know it does not happen overnight. There were times I was so frustrated thinking “Wow I have only lost 10 lbs, I have 70 more to go”. No matter what, I kept pushing forward. Whether it was a brisk walk around the mall with the stroller or a light jog around the block, I took small baby steps to a better, healthier me. There’s beauty in every stage of this journey; celebrate small milestones, have a cheat meal or a piece of chocolate cake once in a while, we are all human. If I can do it, you can too.

Morgantown Sign is Up! Also, New Hours

The Morgantown, WV sign has arrived!  We are official.  We have also extended some of our provider hours so that we can be more available for patients trying to fit an appointment into their busy schedules.

Our NEW days and hours for providers are:

Mondays: 2pm – 5 pm
Thursdays: 10am- 1pm
Fridays:  by appointments

We will continue to be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for shots and weigh-ins.

Reminder: The only time medications can be distributed, are when the providers are there.

Frequently we will have clients come to us with questions regarding how to lose weight more quickly or to continue losing when they have hit a stand-still.  As previously discussed in our article, 7 Tips on How To Break the Weight Loss Plateau, one of the easier options is just to increase your protein consumption.

We are located at the Mid Atlantic Plaza  5004 Mid Atlantic Drive.

Our Morgantown office currently takes appointments two to three days a week with more days in the near future.  Our clinic opens Mon- Tues 11a-5p and Thurs-Fri 11a-5p for weigh-ins and B-12 shots.

We offer all the services that we have in our Pittsburgh and Weirton offices.  You can transfer your chart from one location to another. We are here for your convenience.

As a child, teenager and into a young adult, I’ve always struggled with weight. I would go
home from school as a 3rd grader, crying to my mom about the other girls who made fun of me or what another kid on the bus said. My mother would always tell me I’m beautiful and to not let others get me down. As I got older I always had to have my hair perfect, my makeup perfect and my nails done every other week, but my weight was never a concern to me.

Going to college, I ate like every other college student and continued to gain weight.
Always feeling self-conscious and never letting go of the little girl inside, I always felt bad just never let it show. I would try diets, work out and cleanses, which would seem to fade away within a few weeks. I never made any significant progress or felt better.

It wasn’t until I started with Elevation Weight Loss that my life started to change. I began
to eat more healthy, become more active and began feeling better about myself. I was able to not only meet my goal but surpass it. I am able to lead a more healthy lifestyle, not to feel self-conscious and continue to make new goals to meet. I am no longer worried about health issues that could arise due to being overweight.

What I thought was going to be the most difficult thing to do, become more motivating
with every day that passed and every pound that was dropped. I am able to maintain my weight loss by drinking a lot of water, maintaining low carbs and avoiding sugars. I now eat a lot of greens and venison, which is lean and lower in calories than beef. While I am still on my journey to become more healthy and leaner, I could not have started, achieved, nor keep going without Elevation Weight Loss and support.

My story is simple, I slowly became comfortable with gaining weight. I hated it but had come to terms with how It was happening. I have never been a small person, I have never weighed any less than 180 in my adult years so somehow rising more and more above the 200 was acceptable to me. My family is mostly heavy, quite a few gastric bypass surgeries in there over the years, so I just assumed that was my destiny. On Black Friday 2017, something in me just changed. I was scrolling FB and saw a friend of mine talking about how much better she felt since losing weight. I asked her the secret and she told me about Elevations. That very day I took a shot as a walk in and never looked back. I can’t say I feel so full of energy I can’t run a marathon or anything, but it’s definitely easier to play with my grandson and to hike with the family now. I don’t have to stop near as much. So far I have lost 50 pounds in 6 months. About another 35 to go! YOU can do this with  Elevation -they are amazing people and you never feel judged or alone!
